III. Activities The analysis of SRO activities for 2004-2005 MVU school year can be broken down into two (2) basic categories: 1) Examples of the SRO Triad Concept, and 2) Statistical data for the 2004-2005 school year. A. Examples of the SRO Triad Concept 1. Law Enforcement a. Deterrent by presence during the school day b. Respond to disturbances/crises in the school c. Assist MVU administration with maintaining the peace d. Prepare crime reports and log incidents that occur on CAMPUS e. Assist outside law enforcement agencies (Swanton PD, VSP, FCSO) f. Investigate motor vehicle accidents/parking lot g. Assist non law enforcement agencies (DCF, Probation) h. Investigate/enforce violations of motor vehicle law i. Investigate crime on CAMPUS j. Respond to medical emergencies and crisis intervention k. Notify proper agencies of upcoming incidents based on intelligence l. Give input concerning MVU policy 2. Counselor a. “Open door” policy to all students and staff regarding assistance with problems. b. Legal advice to parents, staff and students c. Facilitate mediation sessions with parents/students, staff/students and students/students d. Attend and give input at Director of Student Affairs-parent/student readmission and discipline conferences e. Discuss the educational steps and moral requirements necessary for a law enforcement career 3. Teacher a. Speak to civics classes on “search and seizure” b. Presentations to driver’s ed classes concerning seatbelt usage/law, DUI laws, effects of alcohol, traffic stop protocol, snowmobile safety/law, ATV safety/law c. Presentations on requirements needed to become a police officer d. Presentations on how to handle negative peer pressure e. Presentations dealing with laws pertaining to drugs/alcohol and tobacco D. Statistical Data 2004-2005 MVU School Year The time period covered is from July1, 2004 to June 30th 2005. During this time period I was on campus 213 days. Workshops/conferences accounted for 5 days. 1. Law Enforcement a. 20 complaints that generated incident #’s ( VCVC, Citations or JV Petitions) 2. Assaults- 1 3. Possession Malt Beverage- 0 4. Violations Conditions of Release- 0 5. Disorderly Conduct- 3 6. Petit Larceny- 1 7. 911 Hang Ups- 0 8. False Public Alarm- 2 9. Unlawful Mischief- 0 10. Tobacco Violations- 5 11. Traffic Violations/Warnings- 3 12. Traffic Accidents/Parking lot- 2 13. Trespass Notices Issued- 0 14. Runaway- 1 15. ATV Warnings- 0 16. Drug Issues- 1 17. Sex Offenses- 0 18. 10-90 ( Alarm)- 1 b. The bulk of the complaints were administrative assists and no incidents numbers were generated. Most centered on the following: (Total of 112 Administrative Assists) 1. Non-compliance with school rules 2. Harassment 3. Bullying 4. Fighting 5. Arguing 6. Possible Threats 7. Buss Issues 8. Irate Parents 9. Counselor a. Facilitated no less than 2 conflict resolutions sessions b. On no less than 169 occasions did students “Drop By” my office and we discussed any number of issues or concerns to the student c. On no less than 37 occasions did parents meet with me to discuss concerns with their child d. Made or fielded no less than 82 phone calls from/to parents or Concerned citizens from the community e. Made no less than 4 home visits with non-compliant/suspended Students. This provided me with ‘Bonding Time” with troubled Students and if home, their parents. 3. Teacher a. Made presentations in no less than 35 classrooms ( involving 633 Students). These presentations covered the following topics: 1. Search and Seizure 2. Peer Pressure 3. Drug Issues/Laws 4. Alcohol Issues/Laws 5. Tobacco Issues/Laws 6. Seatbelt Safety/Laws 7. DUI Laws 8. Snowmobile Safety/Laws 9. ATV Safety/Laws 10. Requirements needed to become a police officer 11. Law enforcement in Franklin County
