FRANKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE TYPE OF INCIDENT: Driving While Intoxicated OFFICER: Juaire DATE OF INCIDENT: 04/14/07 TIME OF INCIDENT: 23:19 LOCATION OF INCIDENT: Maquam Shore Road NAME: Kenneth Labounty AGE: 47 ADDRESS: 240 South Road Fairfield, VT SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: At approximately 2300 this deputy was running stationary radar on county road in the town of Swanton. I observed a vehicle come off Comstock road onto County road with out stopping for the posted stop sign, and clocked the vehicle traveling at 71 mph in a 40 mph zone. I attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle for the above mentioned offense(s). The vehicle sped away west on Janes road and at the Maquam shore intersection; the vehicle started to lose control. At this time, I was able to obtain a registration off of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was able to gain control and continue north on maquam shore road in excess speeds of 85 mph. I was instructed to dis-continue the pursuit at this time. I went back to the location where the vehicle almost crashed to make sure there was no property damage of any kind. As I was doing this, the same vehicle came back off Janes road and again headed North on Maquam Shore road. I again got a distance behind the vehicle without my lights activated. As soon I had assistance from the Vermont State Police, I passed the vehicle and it immediately pulled into a driveway on Maquam Shore road. Vermont State Police was able to stay behind the vehicle and follow it into the driveway. The Male operator, Kenneth M Labounty was issued a citation for DWI, Careless and Negligent Operation, Attempting to Elude, DLS, Excessive Speeding and Possession of Marijuana. Mr. Labounty was also issued a number of Vermont civil violations as well.
